What He asked of Me (Deut 10:12)

"And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul." ~Deuteronomy 10:12

Help, aid, and assist. All three of these words imply the same act: service. Every day, an occasion presents itself for someone to help another individual(s). It doesn’t matter how big or small an act of service turns out to be, service is service. When you tutor a peer, go on a mission trip, or become a staff member at a summer camp, each act of service has the same outcome: fulfillment, peace, and happiness.

When I was first told about summer camp, I was about 14 years old and wanted to go but other things always seemed to interfere. Either I was helping in VBS with different churches, doing summer school, or simply visiting family around the country. Years went by and I was no longer interested in being a camper at PSR but rather a staff member so I could serve to the best of my abilities. I talked to several individuals and asked their opinion and thoughts about the camp and received positive comments which made me feel secure. I told myself that, next year, I would do everything I could to apply and asked God to help me succeed in my plan for Him.

Months went by, and I soon forgot the promise I made to myself and God. Then one day, I saw several camps lined up at school (La Sierra University) and was curious as to what was going on. A friend of mine told me that the whole week was dedicated to camp recruitment week and missions. I immediately realized that although I had forgotten the promise I had made, God hadn't forget. I applied, interviewed, prayed to God that if it was His will, He would help me see through this plan and then began the hardest part of the journey: the waiting. I waited for what seemed like years, but was actually only two months, until the day I got home and I saw a letter addressed to me from PSR. In a rush, I opened and scanned through it and I read the words that I now realize changed my life, “We are pleased to offer you a position for the 2014 summer camp season at PSR.” I signed and turned in my contract in the next few days and then prayed again that this was the way God wanted me to go and that this opportunity would bless me.

Summer came and I took it all in. Day by day, I was shown God’s grace and served to the best of my abilities. Then the summer was gone but God had showed me what an impact I had made and how much of an impact PSR made on me. So much is possible when we are simply willing to serve and allow God to use us in different ways. Often times we say we are going to help this person or give money to another, but we never come through on our words. We only talk about taking action but never accomplish it. Ask God for help and He will not only help you talk the talk, but take it a step further and help you walk the walk.

"Walk the Talk" PSR Camp 2015

Nathan Joshua Munir was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan before immigrating with his family to Southern California. Growing up, he's attended both public and private schools in his journey to college at La Sierra University.
Though currently taking time off from his education, he enjoys life by staying up to date with the latest comic books and television shows based on the aforementioned comics. He also spends time with his family, friends, and consuming new and exciting foods.

Welcome to PSR: Your 2015 Leadership Team

Dear Camp Family & Friends,

It's only March and PSR Camp has already been blessed with record-breaking enrollment for our 2015 summer camp season. This is because our 2014 camp season was so successful and safe, and also because of a much larger trends in our society. (March/April 2015 edition of Camping Magazine, pg. 34.)

Today, I would like to introduce you to a few of the leaders who will be shepherding our staff, campers, and guests this summer. We're really excited to add them to the team of supervisors and have great faith that they will accomplish great things together at camp.

2015 LEADERSHIP TEAM

 Christy Solis

 Title: Administrative Coordinator
 From: Colton, CA
 PSR Seasons: 2014

Last summer was Christy's first season at PSR Camp. She trained with our outgoing administrative coordinator last year, and we're ready to welcome her on board this year and see what she can accomplish.

The administrative coordinator helps to create a lot of the schedules at camp and helps the executive staff remain organized.

Angel S. Castillo

Title: Program Assistant
From: Apple Valley, CA
PSR Seasons: 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014

Angel started working at PSR Camp in the horsemanship department and last summer was a counselor for our Junior Chef class.

"Every time I am with a small group, speaking about Jesus I feel the closest to God. It is what moves me to continue living and thriving. I'm excited to show both the staff and campers the amazing love of God in everything that we do at summer camp." ~Angel

Angel will be directing our Outpost play and helping with many of the other programs we have at camp.

Judith Mendoza

Title: Activities Coordinator
From: Portland, Oregon
PSR Seasons: 2013, 2014

When we needed someone especially reliable to accomplish something at camp, we have always been able to ask Judith.

She's involved with campus ministry at Pacific Union College, and was one of our best soccer camp instructors at PSR Camp.

This summer she'll take the lead in planning our group game activities to make sure our campers have fun playing outside!

Briana Martinez

Title: Village Coordinator
From: Palm Desert, CA
PSR Seasons: 2013, 2014
Camp Safari Day Camp: 2007-2010

Briana is a former head instructor, trip counselor, and participant in Camp Safari at the Palm Desert SDA Church. She also has experience in a classroom setting, and has a lot to offer the girls of south village this season.

"God works in mysterious ways, it just takes faith and trust to see what God has planned for our lives." ~Briana.

 Daniel Marruffo

Title: Village Coordinator
From: Riverside, CA
PSR Seasons: 2012, 2013, 2014

Formerly a camper, Daniel graduated to washing dishes at PSR Camp in 2012. He then came back to PSR to be a counselor for two more seasons before applying to lead the boy's village this year.

His top two goals this season are:
1. To make a difference in the lives of children by modeling Jesus' love and acceptance of all people.
2. To contribute and be part of the ministry of Pine Springs Ranch.

 Nina Bardales

Title: Program Assistant
From: Riverside, CA
PSR Seasons: 2013, 2014

Nina has been working with children for many years as a Sabbath School teacher, preschool teacher's aid, and also at camp as a counselor.

This summer she will be leading out in our Sabbath programs, directing our camp pageant, and planning our morning camp council worships.

She's already used to being a leader at camp and a captain on the water polo team in college and we're glad to have her back on the team.

Colin Willumson

Title: PR & Media Coordinator
From: Murfreesboro, TN
PSR Seasons: 2014
Indian Creek Camp: 2009, 2010, 2011

Last summer Colin was our media instructor, and he's also our very first PR & Media Coordinator. We've had the position available for many years, but Colin is the first person who's had enough relevant experience to fill the post.

This summer Colin will be working on our camp blog, social media updates, and our 2016 promotional video. So make sure to subscribe to our Instagram, Twitter, blog, and follow us on Facebook to get your daily dose of camp information this season.

After those introductions, the first thing I should mention is that the leadership supervisors are a team of equals who all work together in a ministry of camp lay leaders. They all take their responsibilities very seriously and we're happy that all of them accepted the call to serve at PSR Camp this summer.

We'll be having our annual leadership planning session from March 20-23 this year up at the Ranch, so say a prayer for us as we gather to make sure camp is the same quality experience as it's been since 1961.

   We'll see you at camp!
