Welcome to PSR: Your 2015 Leadership Team

Dear Camp Family & Friends,

It's only March and PSR Camp has already been blessed with record-breaking enrollment for our 2015 summer camp season. This is because our 2014 camp season was so successful and safe, and also because of a much larger trends in our society. (March/April 2015 edition of Camping Magazine, pg. 34.)

Today, I would like to introduce you to a few of the leaders who will be shepherding our staff, campers, and guests this summer. We're really excited to add them to the team of supervisors and have great faith that they will accomplish great things together at camp.

2015 LEADERSHIP TEAM

 Christy Solis

 Title: Administrative Coordinator
 From: Colton, CA
 PSR Seasons: 2014

Last summer was Christy's first season at PSR Camp. She trained with our outgoing administrative coordinator last year, and we're ready to welcome her on board this year and see what she can accomplish.

The administrative coordinator helps to create a lot of the schedules at camp and helps the executive staff remain organized.

Angel S. Castillo

Title: Program Assistant
From: Apple Valley, CA
PSR Seasons: 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014

Angel started working at PSR Camp in the horsemanship department and last summer was a counselor for our Junior Chef class.

"Every time I am with a small group, speaking about Jesus I feel the closest to God. It is what moves me to continue living and thriving. I'm excited to show both the staff and campers the amazing love of God in everything that we do at summer camp." ~Angel

Angel will be directing our Outpost play and helping with many of the other programs we have at camp.

Judith Mendoza

Title: Activities Coordinator
From: Portland, Oregon
PSR Seasons: 2013, 2014

When we needed someone especially reliable to accomplish something at camp, we have always been able to ask Judith.

She's involved with campus ministry at Pacific Union College, and was one of our best soccer camp instructors at PSR Camp.

This summer she'll take the lead in planning our group game activities to make sure our campers have fun playing outside!

Briana Martinez

Title: Village Coordinator
From: Palm Desert, CA
PSR Seasons: 2013, 2014
Camp Safari Day Camp: 2007-2010

Briana is a former head instructor, trip counselor, and participant in Camp Safari at the Palm Desert SDA Church. She also has experience in a classroom setting, and has a lot to offer the girls of south village this season.

"God works in mysterious ways, it just takes faith and trust to see what God has planned for our lives." ~Briana.

 Daniel Marruffo

Title: Village Coordinator
From: Riverside, CA
PSR Seasons: 2012, 2013, 2014

Formerly a camper, Daniel graduated to washing dishes at PSR Camp in 2012. He then came back to PSR to be a counselor for two more seasons before applying to lead the boy's village this year.

His top two goals this season are:
1. To make a difference in the lives of children by modeling Jesus' love and acceptance of all people.
2. To contribute and be part of the ministry of Pine Springs Ranch.

 Nina Bardales

Title: Program Assistant
From: Riverside, CA
PSR Seasons: 2013, 2014

Nina has been working with children for many years as a Sabbath School teacher, preschool teacher's aid, and also at camp as a counselor.

This summer she will be leading out in our Sabbath programs, directing our camp pageant, and planning our morning camp council worships.

She's already used to being a leader at camp and a captain on the water polo team in college and we're glad to have her back on the team.

Colin Willumson

Title: PR & Media Coordinator
From: Murfreesboro, TN
PSR Seasons: 2014
Indian Creek Camp: 2009, 2010, 2011

Last summer Colin was our media instructor, and he's also our very first PR & Media Coordinator. We've had the position available for many years, but Colin is the first person who's had enough relevant experience to fill the post.

This summer Colin will be working on our camp blog, social media updates, and our 2016 promotional video. So make sure to subscribe to our Instagram, Twitter, blog, and follow us on Facebook to get your daily dose of camp information this season.

After those introductions, the first thing I should mention is that the leadership supervisors are a team of equals who all work together in a ministry of camp lay leaders. They all take their responsibilities very seriously and we're happy that all of them accepted the call to serve at PSR Camp this summer.

We'll be having our annual leadership planning session from March 20-23 this year up at the Ranch, so say a prayer for us as we gather to make sure camp is the same quality experience as it's been since 1961.

   We'll see you at camp!

2015 Camp Scholarships: New Information for Parents

Dear Parents, Grandparents, Pastors, and Guardians,

   March is camper scholarship time.

If you're familiar with the process, then you know that church boards usually meet once a month and they often have a great deal of say in scholarship availability. If you wait till April, you might be too late to get the best price on a week of summer camp (first discount deadline is April 30).

This season, we're making 120 scholarships available on a first come, first served basis. After those 120 scholarships have been claimed, we'll limited churches to three scholarship per church (which is the tradition).

Are you new to the entire process? Here is the newest information straight from the 2015 Camp Magazine:

"Camp Family
Parents can see the price of camp as a deterrent to sending their children, which interferes with our goal of sending every child to PSR who wants to attend. Utilizing a 3-way scholarship program, we’ve been able to overcome some of the financial hurdles and make camp more affordable for parents, grandparents, and guardians to send their child or children to summer camp.

What is a 3-Way Matching Scholarship?
This scholarship is a partnership between PSR Camp, the local church, and the family. The church makes a contribution to the cost of camp of at least $60 (most churches give $100), the camp makes a flat rate contribution of $100, and then the family pays the balance.

Depending on the activity and registration date, the remainder is usually between $89 and $129. Scholarship awards are still only available for week-long camps, and cannot be used for our family camp or cub camp sessions.

New Process for 2015 Season
In the past we’ve limited scholarships to only three per church, but now we’re doing things a bit differently to make scholarships even more available this season.

This year the first 120 camp scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Once those scholarships have been claimed, then we’ll limit 3-way scholarship awards to three per church.
Step By Step
Every church does it a little differently, but parents are usually the ones who need to get the ball rolling. If you’re interested in a camp scholarship you’ll need to follow these steps:
1) Talk to your local pastor about camper scholarships
2) Navigate to www.psr.camp
3) Under the ‘Parents’ tab, click on the ‘Document Center’ button OR: CLICK HERE
4) Download & print the ‘2015 Camper Scholarship Form’
5) Fill in the top portion with camper information
6) Pastor fills in church portion
7) Send PSR the completed scholarship form (fax or mail)
8) Make a reservation in Ultracamp and pay (at least) the deposit

We recommend you complete the process before April 30 to get the maximum benefit from registration discounts. There is no set deadline to submit scholarship applications, but remember this season they’ll be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note: We’re doing our best to get the word out so churches know about the scholarship program. If you, or your pastor have any questions or concerns, we’re always available by phone or email (or even in person) to answer questions.

Contact Us                                                                                                                                                 PSRCamp@seccsda.org
 (951) 509-2266"

I hope this information is helpful as parents start getting ready to make their summer plans.

   We'll see you at camp!
